Typee: A Peep at Polynesian Life

Typee: A Peep at Polynesian Life - Herman Melville, Hershel Parker, Harrison Hayford, G. Thomas Tanselle Although this was only his first book, and considered something like fluff when compared to his magnum opus "Moby-Dick," Melville's superb command of the language and gift for interesting discursiveness was already nascent. An excellent read, in and of itself, but also for the purpose of charting Melville's evolution as a writer.
